Summer Love

Bloom is your perfect lazy-day-it’s-too-hot summer afternoon read.

So sweet. Two guys. Ari and Hector. One loves baking and stumbles upon a job at The Kyros Family Bakery. The other can’t wait to escape the clutches of the family’s bakery business and start a band.

Together, they make delicious pretzels, cakes, and cookies by hand.  You can see and feel the relationship building with each new treat they make from scratch.

The whole story is so nice and innocent, kind of like a simple loaf of bread you find at the farmers’ market, baked by your favorite vendor. Wholesome ingredients combo’d with the love of making something from scratch. You know you are going to get something delicious.

The artwork in this graphic novel feels effortless yet energetic. A blue and gray palette is reserved yet stunning. I had never read a graphic novel before and this was a great intro. Added bonus for those looking for a YA fix.

I liked this book so much, I want to pass it along. What better way to celebrate summer than with a giveaway? Leave a comment below with a brief description of your favorite baked good and why you love it.

I’ll start. We have a  Saturday farmers’ market in our town. There’s a farm that makes incredible bread. I like to make extra thick slices of toast for Sunday morning. So thick they don’t fit in the toaster. I like to pan fry both sides in a skillet and top with herby cream cheese, a preserved fish like gravlax, and a fried egg.  Your turn!
